Kaakun is Growing Up

Girl: I don't like Arrested Development either...

initial reaction: wow you're dumb.
2nd reaction: ooooh what kind of #$%#@ programing do you enjoy? The Hills? Jersey Shore?

went with: .... oh.

I got coaxed into this conversation because she was talking to someone and was trying to figure out the main character's name of "Dan in Real Life"

which led to that was the only thing of his she's ever liked.
which led to thinking the Office is kinda crappy. (No problems there.)
which led to Arrested Development.

Rebecca

So after three days of trying to be all social and blah blah blah blah in the ward. Kaakun ran into a predicament. He didn't genuinely care about any of these folks... sure some could grow on him at a later date but whatever, at the current date, no love for the locals. Overall its been a growing season of quote C-level friends end quote.

I knew the Utah folks were coming towards CA. And in trying to coordinate with Greg, I was informed he was not in charge of it. So I called Rebecca. Yes that Rebecca who in August 2008 would have probably cut off my head spit down my neck and called it a day.

I left a message and waited.

She called back and sounded genuinely nice. Like she was enjoying talking to me. I was informed a little more of new plans. and finally had to ask. WHO IS THIS?!?!

These are some of my conclusions.

1) She is plotting to shoot me. Backpacking.... middle of nowhere. bears that can dispose of the body. No witnesses except a few birds...

2) .... yeah that's the only LOGICAL explanation.

3) unless someone else has earned the title of "recipient of Becca's ire". which actually is probably another logical explanation... maybe.

A Story of Woe

All conversations edited to protect their identities.

Sent by me to three people

1) do you have plans wed during the day? 2) how do you feel about root beer/orange crush floats 3) how do you feel about baseball

i get two no replies and this

Make friends with XXXXXXXXXXXX! She's like the softball activities director! XXXXX XXXXXXXXX (her phone number) and besides temple on Wednesday night, my Wednesday is clear.

my reply

The a's have a root beer float fundraiser for some cause. Scooped/poured out by current/former players. $2 a float. Need a ticket to the game to get in. Hmm make friends with XXXXXXXX. I think my C+ level friend quota is full

so after 24-hours of no reply of a "sure that sounds interesting, i'll go" or "no i won't i don't like baseball"

i send
So was "wed before temple night is clear" a "sure i'll go eat floats and watch baseball"?

which gets this
And now I'm confused, was that text about baseball like a date invitation?! I thought it was a mass text to see if anyone was interested in a potential activity.

I hate to ask you to clarify because that's awkward but that's what you get when you send a text where it's not clear! There should be a rule about no texting for date invitations! And I'm totally taken if it was (XXX XXXXXXX - currently serving in the Tulsa mission, will be home in 10 months). There are a bunch of great girls in the ward who enjoy baseball though - like XXXXXX XXXXXXX, XXXXX XXXXXXXX, XXXXXXXX XXXXXX, I think XXXXXXXX XXXXXX, etc.

If it wasn't a date invite, then feel free to ignore this entire message!

...awkward pause... I guess we'll just stick with C+ friends for now?

Have a great day!!!!

my reply

yeah awkward,

i sent it out to XXXXXX and XXXX XXXXXX and you. and you were the only one to reply. With XXXX that seems to mean he's busy and i got XXXXXX's number off the ward directory so no idea if its correct.

lastly she says

Oh this is funny! Love it.

XXXXXX is XXX-XXXX just so you know and the best way to get a group going is to start talking about it at a group thing - like church or FHE or hiking group, then you get immediate response and at least tentative commitment. Like my beach thing, that worked out.

Maybe try the idea again later because it's a good one! Try seeing who might be interested on Sunday and then choose a final time.

Here's my suggested tagline: "Captain Kirk hosts all American Baseball and Rootbeer Floats Fest!" And I'd be down for it if you can get a group together. Make some more C class friends and you should be able to put a little something together!

My issues.
A) I don't see us as friends if you're willing to hang out in a group but not one-on-one. Especially if the no romance card has been played and agreed upon.

B) she is telling me how to ask out a girl. I know how to ask out a girl.

C) despite our few group hang-outs. she totally shoots me down on a one-on-one level, yet suggests that i do a one-on-one hang out with people i don't know. yeah that doesn't seem likely.

D) This from the same person that had to teach a lesson on, "Guys in the ward don't ask girls out on dates" i find it all amusing.

Ok my 24-hours of angry ranting is over. Now she'll just be ridiculed with "remember that time when i asked you to hang out and you thought i was asking you out" cruel cruel jokes.

EDIT: So Kaakun felt a bit bad about posting this, so asked around.

Is this mean?

No I think it was fine.
-Jessica, known since spring 06

ahaha no i think you are funny. As you long as you can laugh about it you aren't mean
-Maureen, known since Fall 03
though she also said, "i always paired you off with candice" random.

haha, no, i don't think it is mean
-David, known since Spring 02.

no it's not mean, she is full of herself
-Stephanie, known since Spring 07.

I just *hope* that things with her missionary work out well. No I don't - she needs to learn to be nice!
-Sara, known since Spring 06.

I heart my friends. in a non-awkward most are married and one reviewer was a male, hearting way.
