We Need More Black Baseball Players

From an Internet article.

Lots of people have paid lip service to the diminishing presence of African-Americans in baseball. Now a group of former big-leaguers is committing itself to helping end the trend.

Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd, Marquis Grissom and Delino DeShields are putting together a barnstorming tour-dubbed "Oil Can Boyd's Traveling All-Stars"-of exhibition games this spring and summer through America and Canada. They're also in the early stages of trying to put together a new independent league, tentatively called the Urban Baseball League, to start play next year.

"I'm sick of the rhetoric," DeShields told the Boston Globe. "If we want more black kids playing baseball, if we want more black people in the stands, if we want more black people running baseball teams and in positions of power, then we have to go after it ourselves. We have do something about it, and not just talk about it. Oil Can, Marquis and I are going after it. We're trying to change things as businessmen and as baseball players."

The hope is the UBL will have franchises in cities with large African-American populations, preferably with prominent African-Americans in ownership positions, and will help sell and teach the game to inner-city kids. Chicago seems a natural for the league, although the saturation of pro teams in the area creates a challenge for a new enterprise.

Derek Bell and Sam Horn are among the former big-leaguers who have committed for the this summer's tour. The organizers are hoping to land Carl Everett, Pokey Reese and Bernard Gilkey, among others.

Do they really think an Independent League is going to help?

There are hundreds of professional baseball teams scattered across the land. (A list of Major League affiliated teams. Link.) If that doesn't give you enough baseball, then there are a handful of independent leagues oh and whole lotta college teams to boot.

If your city is big enough to collect money to build a ball field, it probably already has baseball in it.

It's not like there is a movement to get more white people into the NBA, more asians into the NHL or latinos into the NFL, etc.

If someone doesn't have the desire to get into a sport, watching a bunch of semi-professionals that happen to have the same skin color as them probably isn't going to help.

A travelling exhibition of all-stars over the spring and summer...When is MLB baseball played? In the spring and summer... So where would the best baseball players be during the spring and summer? Probably playing for a MLB team (or in our case on the DL of a Major League Baseball team). Once again watching "passed their prime" and "never quite hit their prime" players play baseball...probably won't inspire many kids to pick up a bat and glove at their local Wal-Mart.

Maybe they should try some media blitz and spend millions of dollars on a poster boy MLB athlete and slap his face on every thing that may be marketed towards young african-american males. That has a better chance of succeeding than another independent baseball league that features mostly African-American players.

Music Music Music

So May 9th, Salt Lake City's Kilby Court.

Ozma and New Years Day.

The poor man's Weezer and Taking Back Sunday.

I have fond memories of Kilby Court, probably because it was such A DIY venue. Get a backyard, buy two tough sheds, have merch in the small tough shed, rock out in the big one. Sell tickets for $6-10. Have a fun time.

Ozma is the 21st century of Weezer in so many ways. Both bands were formed in Southern California. Listen to the music. It's geek rock. Watch an Ozma set and you're left waiting for an encore that includes the sweater song. Weezer breaks up and gets back together. Following suit, Ozma breaks up and gets back together. Ozma's three LPs are as good as the last two Weezer CDs. Good for Ozma.

Bassist, Adam Lohrbach was bored. He left Home Grown, who's potty humor songs made it an asian fronted Blink-182. So he looked around for something new.

One drummer, check.
One bassist, check.
two guitarists, check and check.
one singer that looks like a girl, check.

Now TVT Records gives you New Years Day. Its a similar line-up to Taking Back Sunday, so they must have decided to play songs that sound like Taking Back Sunday. New Years Day's singer is actually a woman though (Adam Lazzara, might make a prettier woman though...). John Nolan left Taking Back Sunday and they kinda went into a downward spiral (First LP was way better than the last two LPs). New Years Day is just avoiding that whole downward spiral and starts out down there with kinda average music.

Jimmy Tamborello is responsible for making music that sounds like 8-bit Nintendo video game music.

Dntel, The Postal Service, Figurine.

All the product of Mr. Tamborello.

He gathered all the "big" names in indy music and let them sing on his last Dntel LP, Dumb Luck. It's interesting, it makes for good lounging around music.

If you don't like lounging music, maybe you'll like The Academy Is... new LP, Santi.

Fulled By Ramen sure is finding a lot of bands. Fall Out Boy, Gym Class Heroes, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, The Academy Is...

And all the big labels are snapping them up.

Santi isn't the greatest LP though. I thought their first LP, Almost Here, had songs that were catchy. This one left me a tad bit disappointed and makes me wonder if Atlantic Records hurried them to put out a CD.

A Heart Warming Tale

So there was this acquaintance. The first time I came across him, he was hanging out with Larrie. His name was Seth and he was a cool kid. But I didn't think much of it, because there are like 40,000 people wandering around BYU and like 100 cool kids and you can't just go up to some kid and be like, you're cool I want to associate with you and hang out... Because that just sounds gay.

The next school year and a half we end up having a couple classes together and worked on a couple projects and one day I was like, "hey you know Larrie!" and he was like, "yeah, I saw you once at her apartment."

Anyways, he applied for the advertising program at BYU a semester before me. He doesn't get in. But through the wonderful gift of appeals. He gets in. I end up applying when the Communications front desk lady person says, "this is the most people that have ever applied to the program ever, we're so excited!!!"

Needless to say despite my unique ability (at least in the state of Utah) to diversify a program, there was no way that would go down. The appeal was sent in and denied...

Seth goes on graduates and goes to New York... I work with BYU quarterbacks on school projects and have to help carry their dead weight, graduate and wander the streets.

Congrats on New York, Seth. I've added your blog to the Bloggin' Buddies. I look forward to interesting posts of your times in New York.

So I Think...

That every medical TV show has over played the Fray's "How To Save a Life". I also think who every picks the music for Grey's Anatomy and Scrubs is the same guy. A whole lot of Josh Radin with some indy music mixed in for kicks and giggles.

The Month of April

So the last post of this month pretty much starts out the same as the first post of last May.

The A's finished the month 12-12. Since they've been slow starters, I can't complain. The Sharks easily took care of the Predators in the first round of the NHL playoffs.

The A's finished up the month 12-13. Still slow starters... blah. The Sharks easily took care of the Predators in five games again. Only one BYU player was picked in the 06 NFL draft, Todd Watkins 218th overall, this year only one BYU player was picked. John Beck was taken with the 40th overall pick.

How fun. April 06 and April 07 was pretty much the same thing sports wise.

Except the New York Yankees are in last place in the AL East!!! HHAHHAAHAHAHHAHA.

They are 9-14. HAHAHA 1 for 9 in save opportunities. HAHAHAHAHA. The only team with a worse record in the American League is the Kansas City Royals. HAHAHA. All despite A-Rod leading the majors with a ridiculous amount of HRs (14, a record for the month of April) and RBIs (34, 1 short of tying the AL record for April). hahahahahaha. A team that has more money tied up in starting pitchers than half the teams spend on their entire roster. HAHA.weee... My eyes are watering tears of joy.

The Warriors will pray and try to take a 3-1 lead over the Dallas Mavericks tonight. It's funny how something stay the same and some take a backwards turn.

EDIT: The Warriors won, wow... I'm speechless, just wow the end must be near. The Warriors might win a playoff series and the East Bay freeways just got messed up with an exploding gasoline truck knocking out an overpass on to the Bay Bridge. article 10 PM

Sports Sports Sports

The Warriors won again and lead the series 2-1, wow.

The Sharks lost today and are tied 1-1, hm.

The A's stellar bullpen gives up 12 ERs over 18 IP and the offense puts up a pathetic line of .235/.313/.350 this week against the Rangers, O's, M's and D-Rays...ick.

But they won today at least, yay.

So JaMarcus Russell, Patrick Willis, Joe Staley and Zach Miller are moving to the Bay Area to help bay area football make it to the playoffs...thats good I suppose.

John Beck goes to Miami...at least he'll get some sun. He can put that BA in Comms to good use calling plays...or whatever.

This is what Rotoworld has to say about him
An argument can be made that Beck is the most NFL-ready quarterback in this year's class, as he started 3.5 years at BYU and is highly accurate. Beck will also be 26 during the season, had the second-strongest arm at the Combine, and possesses above average mobility. He'll need to add strength because he only measures 6-2/215, but there's an outside chance Beck will be the Dolphins' starter at some point in 2007.

Spring Clean Up

I wanted to start cleaning up some things, so I moved over the MSN Space postings (pre-blogger days...)over. Nine posts in all, nothing in particular importance. The title has a (MSN SPACE) in it.

(I did notice that despite the post date is two years ago, it does come up on RSS feeds...so sorry those of you that use RSS readers.)

I said I would do it last March, so it took 13 months to move nine posts over.

That was a tad bit time consuming. Trying to figure out how to delete my MSN space took a bit longer. I finally googled it to find out how. I can't figure out how to delete the Myspace blog, but the two posts on there have been deleted so for all extensive purposes, it's deleted.

In other news, MSN Money did an article on customer service hall of shame. article

I only deal with #6 Citibank and #8 Verizon. I've never had any problems with them, so I've never called them. I try to avoid #7 Walmart like the plague, but occasionally end up there. I am surprised that AOL isn't on the list. But I suppose people have moved on from dial-up to other means of Internet providers. They probably had trouble switching, since Comcast, Time Warner Cable, AT&T and Verizon are on the list.

Lastly, I switched the SuperAsian blog over to the beta template to see what it was like. I don't think I like it, I'll stick to playing with the HTML on here (I usually get it the way I want it anyways).

I busted out the Arrested Development and had a lil marathon. It was such a swell program. NBC liked it too, a lot of the Arrested Development extras now have recurring roles in NBC's thursday night line up.

Post #292, May Is For Moving

LeeElle's reminiscing got me thinking.

At one point of my life, this time of year was always spent moving.

April 00- Went from Provo to Takatsuki, Japan (about 5721 miles)
April 02-Went from Heritage Halls back home (about 805 miles)
April 03- Went from Centennial II to across the street to Roman Gardens (about 320 feet)
April 04-Went from Roman Gardens to Branbury Park (about 3 miles)

(I realize that all these dates are April, but April is for Moving just didn't sound as nice. And it was always late April, so pretty much I didn't technically get unpacked until May.)

All this moving means you have to be creative to get new friends...
In honor of Spiderman on DVD, um yeah...(Nathan invited everyone he knew to watch it, it got old after watching it 3535242 times). So David didn't like this picture when he saw it four years ago, its a good thing he doesn't look at the blog. I also never noticed there was a finger almost covering the lens. My roommates that year weren't too great at operating cameras. I think Nathan took the picture, it's ok,I forgive you Nathan b/c I was Nathan's favorite roommie.

Kevin liked going home for the weekend, I guess we were a bit much to have to live with. So we replaced him with faux-Kevin. Then Kevin wasn't missed as much.

The creativity rubbed off on others. Asian was written on the window, but it was in positive terms, so I guess its an anti-hate crime.

Grey's S02E18

George finally got some Grey poonany love. Good for you George, only took 27 Episodes and a half-season-recap special to get it.

So word on the street is Lost is finally answering questions. Does anyone want to give me a Cliff Notes version of season 3?

I stopped after season 2 put me to sleep, with the constant flashbacks.

Another blurry picture from a plane. Don't click on it. It looks better small.

EDITED: for the female readership.

The Last Post I'll Ever Write About Me Being in Utah

I went to Utah. Twice in four months. I know I'm crazy.

So when you go to Utah twice in four months. The welcoming committee isn't as excited the second time around. Probably because I only call people every once in a while, so it plays out as if I lived down the street instead of a different state.

I golfed and watched a whole lot of South Park and Grey's Anatomy. Yeah it's hard to find things to do when you don't have a car with you.

Tangent: I'm halfway through the second season of Grey's Anatomy. It's not bad. It is entertaining enough, but it's no Heroes.

Restaurants I hit up, I tried to hit the Utah "chains" mainly:
The Smokehouse (not so grand, I was sorely disappointed, it used to be pretty decent)
J-Dawgs
Costa Vida
Gandalfos (good, but I remember it being better)
Kneaders (better than ever)
Panda Express (um yeah, this was Ellie and Emily's doing)
The Pie
Chef's Table
Crown Burger

Exciting Provo Entertainment I went to:
Ellie and Emily's softball game
45 holes of golf at Thanksgiving Point, Hobble Creek, East Bay
Sitting in 207...
Sitting in 311...
Mae and Relient K at In the Venue
Church
throwing the baseball around
Laughing Stock Improv at the Off Broadway Theater
BYU/SUU baseball game

Memorable Quotes:

Assert yourself your ideas are worthwhile. -Panda Express Fortune cookie (It's kinda scary when a generic fortune cookie's fortune tells you that you should assert yourself and it's right)

Greg: The only rule is, you can't use my face soap to wash your balls.
Bruce: (from the other side of the room) what was the only rule?
Kirk: I can't douche my balls with Greg's face soap.
Greg: I'll be inspecting it every day!!!

Bruce: Go with me on this...
(Greg walks back in the room)
Bruce: You should get this phone, it's totally awesome. It's easy to use and not very big.
(Greg turns and looks at the screen, Bruce is as giddy as a school girl)

Chef's table Chef person: Are you here for a special occasion or just out and about?
Kirk: (Thinking: to celebrate the three month anniversary since we last came here! no, to celebrate the conception of our bastard child?...no, what you think we can't afford your restaurant so we'd only come here on a SPECIAL occasion? eh)
Just out and about.

Kirk: You should hang out with Scoffield.
(Three ladies stop in their tracks and stare at us)
Kirk: Oh, um I was talking to him...(pointing to Derek)
Lady: Our last name is Scoffield.
Kirk: oh.

No one told me to shut up like last time...

Kirk: Jake, question! Do you want to go back to Arizona when you're done with school?
Jake: No, I like seasons.
Kirk: yeah I was in Arizona last month, it sucks

Kirk: Pletsch, I'm serious.
Pletsch: Ok if I break my legs we're engaged.

Kirk: How about them Yankees, they're the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked.
Emily: I'm not following them
Kirk: The O's are in 2nd place, the O's! They haven't been in a playoff position since Ellie was a wee little one.

Kirk: HAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHHHAHAHAHAHA (rolling around in the grass "sand trap" at East bay)
Greg: DID THAT GO IN?!?!?!
Kirk: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA.
Greg: did you hit the pole and have it drop in or did it roll in?
Kirk: HAHAHAHA, rolled in...

So you pretty much experienced the whole Utah trip. EXCITING I KNOW! Provo is wild crazy. Five years or so and I didn't get enough so I run back to it, It's super. (That last sentence is full of sarcasm)

The Warriors WON?!?!

In Dallas.

So a team that went 12-29 (.293) on the road this season, beat a team that was 36-5 (.878) at home. A team that hasn't been to the playoffs since 1994 (I was in Seventh grade then...) a team that hasn't won a playoff game since 1992. Beat the team with the best record in the NBA...

Amazing.

I don't care if Dallas blows out the Warriors in the next four games, this has been the most amazing thing I've ever seen (at least today, I watched the second quarter in the airport).

So the average high in Provo while I was there was 60 degrees, the average low was 39. The average high in Vegas was 70, the average low was 49. So I went 390 miles North East to escape 10 degrees of heat.

Funny Phone Call

So yesterday, I was out and about golfing and didn't hear the phone.

David called and was like, "hey I'm going to Utah for Memorial Day b/c my mom is getting married and I think you should come out for it too. We can play golf and hang out with Matt and Greg and stuff".

I already did all that stuff. GOLF? 45 holes of golf, so check! Hang out with Greg and Matt and stuff? I hung out with Greg, didn't see much of Matt, but I squeezed as many peeps in as I could. I guess I should have told David. I was just going to send him pictures of his favorite golf course and call it good. Its not my fault, he rarely answers his gmail chat stuff. Plus Matt spilled the beans on his May Utah trip when Matt found out I was on my way up to Mormon Mecca.

In other news, at least I was blogged about on this trip. Post

Greg and I are(/were) secretly competing on who can get blogged more. I'm kind of at a disadvantage since I'm out-of-state. I've been mentioned twice as much as Greg though and they have been way better in quality.

Sweet. Hey Kirk! Thanks for commenting, my blog's coolness factor just went up like 8 points.

...that is just about the best offer I've ever received.

compared to...
I think we had even convinced Greg to dress up in the blue bear outfit and hide the eggs.

Yep, Kirk: 2 Greg: .5

Finally, while I've been down here there have also been numerous threats of "I figure we can stay at your place..." "I call dibs on your bed because I'm the girl..." and "I'm trying to get down there..." These people range from the, "I enjoy your company, you may visit" to "eh, if I never saw you again, I wouldn't exactly lose sleep over it" types of people.

The city of Las Vegas has the most hotel rooms per square mile in the world, I think they could find suitable lodging elsewhere. Especially since the "I call dibs on your bed" conversation started with, "I hate you!", yep I'm really itching to give up the bed now.

Sherwood Is My New White Whale

So I found out about Sherwood either in the 2nd half of 05 or the 1st half of 06. They were entertaining and happy, kinda like The Format or Yellowcard (pre-2003), just in Californian way instead of Arizonan of Floridan.

It's hard for small bands to find a reason to come to Utah, until they tag along on someone's nationwide tour. They came to Utah in the summer of 06, but it was Ogden and I couldn't find anyone to keep me company to drive all the way up to Ogden.

So I found out they were going back on tour earlier this year, and it was time for me to cancel out the "I'm never going to another show" attitude. I made my way up to Utah for a lil golf and a lil show at good ole Bricks.

We missed Sherwood.

Yeah, completely missed it.

Only the third time or so. I've missed a band.

-Last spring I screwed up and missed half of The Spill Canvas' set in Salt Lake. drat, that was the only band I wanted to see that night, crap.

-I also completely missed seeing Reggie and The Full Effect last year. That was also disappointing. But Alkaline Trio made it all better by riding onto the stage on bicycles wearing white shirts and black ties.

-Summer of 2002... Alisa and I piled into her car and went to see Strung Out (my other White Whale) in Santa Cruz. Saw the line and decided to kill time til the line died down in Downtown Santa Cruz. Came back and there was no line...there was also a sign saying there was no tickets. whoops.

So we got there in plenty of time to see Mae, they did alright. I was expecting worse since David said they sucked in AZ, he said the vocals were really off. They did fine tonight.

Relient K was an eh. But I was expecting that. I was never a fan of newer bubble gum pop punk bands. They've been around since 98 I guess, but I never heard of them and by the time I did, my CD collection had its fill of cookie cutter pop punk. It's just hard to get into someone's live show when the girl's screams are louder than three guitarists playing the same chords.

If you have a pop punk song thats driven by a piano. It's going to attract like 7 out of 10 white teenage girls.

Thats Relient K. It's not quite like Something Corporate, but they like their piano.

They pull up the Relient K banner... Girls scream.
They turn out the lights...Girls scream.
They walk onto the stage, girls scream.
they play the same chord. we're punk, here's 3 guitarists and a bassist playing the same chord. girls scream.

Everyone is jumping up and down...I remember crowds like that, all shoved into a space so tightly that you're not even jumping...yet you're moving up and down b/c the six other people around are jumping.

EDIT: I also missed Straylight Run at Utah's Red something something student activity... that was disappointing.

My Mom Would Be So Proud

It's from this game....

It's intense. Like edge of your seat-intense.

Like you get stupider as the game goes on intense.

My blood pressure went up, it's a good thing that I'm so book smart (and being a good guesser came into play...especially after 33 minutes of playing it. Hint: Al is never a right answer) or else I would have had a heart attack.

If you win 10x in a row, you get a "Get out of Hell" card that you can print up and keep on you.

If you win 20x in a row, you get to print a ticket to upgrade one whole kingdom, no Telestrial Kingdom for me, if I can figure out how to win 20x in a row.

If you don't get past level 6 in four tries, it makes you tear up your temple recommend.

It's intense.

Sports post #24525 or so

The Sharks beat the Predators...taking a 3-1 series lead. woot.
The A's beat the Angels sweeping the two game series. woot woot.
The Warriors prevent a 13-year playoff drought by going beating Portland. no woot, I don't care for basketball.

Really a 1 in 100 Chance

So we were sitting next to the the aisle at a BYU-SUU baseball game. It was a really pitiful game. BYU had six errors. For a good amount of the game they had more errors than hits. Thats never going to win you a baseball game.

The Timp Gateway folks really sucked it up. Vargas/Musso combined for a 0-for-4 (and a walk) night and chipped in four errors. Law pulled Vargas after he walked (he committed the error in the top of the inning) for a pinch runner.

So we needed other means to keep us excited.

Derek, Greg and I started to reminisce about the past. At one point during the conversation, I mentioned to Derek, you can hang out with Scoffield. These three ladies were walking down the stairs at the same time, stopped and were looking at us. After a few awkward seconds I was like, "Oh I was talking to him". Then she was like, "you said our name, our name is Scoffield." I was like "oh... um, we know a different Scoffield." Then they continued down the stairs.

What are the chances that I'd shout out the last name of people walking by?

The A's Won a Series!

Sure they tied the stupid Angels, and lost to the White Sox and Mariners.

But they beat the stupid Yankees. Take that evil empire!!!

The team mustered a line of .185 BAA, .265 OBP, .328 SLG over the three games. Yeah thats a horrible line. Buck, Swisher and Chavez unloaded a world of hurt on the Bomber's pitchers. Going .323/.452/.710.

The rest of the team was a paltry .136/.181/.193. But that includes Todd Walker's single, Jason Kendall's walk and then Marco Scutaro's three-run blast against Rivera. All in the bottom of the 9th with the A's down by two, to come back and win the game.

The pitchers did alright, a team ERA 3.28, a whip of 1.33 and 7.1 K/per 9 IN. But the pitchers (as a whole) haven't been a problem so far in the season.

Yet Another Dream

So last night I was working for a newspaper as like an intern or something. I had to come up with decent stories.

Yeah my stories kinda sucked, but so did everyone elses, so it wasn't so bad. Just think of what it would be like working for the Daily Herald or Daily Universe (though I heard that the U's student newspaper was even crappier than the Y's)...or pretty much any Utah county-based newspaper; there's your life story.

(ooh former Daily Universe employees won't like that at all)

It was kinda frustrating, but then I was starting following a lead on a story that wasn't fluff, but I woke up.

You can analyze that one too Rebecca.

More Dreamz

This one was bit more normal.

So I was in San Francisco. I had to home teach someone in San Francisco... They set up their own appointment every month, I just had to go out there and do it. So they wanted to try some Japanese thingie. So I was wandering the streets trying to find this Japanese grocery store. Finally found it, then I couldn't remember what they wanted to try.

I was disappointed. I failed them, then I hung out with Mandy Moore in Golden Gate Park. So that got rid of the disappointment. I think i bailed out of HT-ing to do that though... Dreamz Kaakun is sooooo irresponsible.

Crazy Dream, C-R-A-Z-Y.

So in the dream I decide I have gotten tired of responsibility. So I get dirty so I look grubby and wander into an orphanage. Since I'm Asian, I totally pass as a 17-year-old. I look young and with the completely sad, uneven placement of facial hair follicles. I am accepted into the fold as a young parent-less minor.

Anyways, all of a sudden I'm adopted by some do-good white family. There are like five kids, the two oldest are their offspring, the other three are the Angelina Jolie trading card variety, a black one (your token 6-year old black kid) , a South East Asian (your token four-year-old south east Asian sweat shop worker) and something else I never meet the other.

I soon learn, the do good white couple, is pretty much crazy. I start thinking this may have been a bad idea. Like making me pull out all the seats in the mini-van so they can collect cans and recycle them.

The oldest son, looks like J.C. (the kid in my last ward, it's not like it's Jesus or someone). He's crazy too, I avoid him.

The daughter is Willa Holland (thats what I get for watching the OC, the only 16-year-old I can think up is a teen soap opera actress). She's crazy but in a more mischievous way crazy than "two visits a week with a psychologist" crazy. This is probably why the do good couple started adopting, their gene pool was pretty much nuts.

So despite the fact I don't have to worry about paying for food and rent. This may have been a very bad idea.

Off to school, high school is a breeze, kinda boring. This may have been a very very bad idea.

The new sister and I after some awkwardness at first, hit it off, we're like two peas in a pod. She's mischievous crazy and I'm "dreams up some crazy dream that FOX would love and make into a TV show" crazy. In bizzaro-land, it all works.

Well we go off to some field trip to some museum and concoct some crazy plan to steal some whatever.

Now all those 'Gone in 60 seconds', 'Italian Job' and 'Ocean's Eleven' films come into play.

She photoshops up some security badges, we get into some high security room. I stop and talks to the guard. She grabs the thing. We run off, the guard follows me, I lose him in a crowd of Japanese tourists.

That was close.

We get back to the car, drive off, back to home. The oldest son decides to show me he got bored and shaved his balls...um, thats super.

This may have been a bad idea.

1000!!!

So the blog got its 1000th hit. Sure it took like seven months, but it doesn't count some people b/c of their ad blockers and it doesn't count those of you that use RSS readers.

But out of the websites not featuring celebrity nip slips and pornography, it's like the 70th most visited site on the World Wide Web...

People from Germany, Spain, China, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Mexico, Australia, Japan, Canada and Korea have stumbled onto kaakun.com.

I'm in more countries than Xango!!!

David saw Sherwood and Mae in Arizona. He said Sherwood was amazing. Mae not so much. Yay for Sherwood.

They found that a 5-foot-8 man was just as successful in getting dates as a 6-footer if he made more money — precisely $146,000 a year more. For a 5-foot-2 man, the number was $277,000. [For more of these trade-offs, see nytimes.com/tierneylab.]
Quadruple frick.

For equal success with a white woman, an African-American man needs to earn $154,000 more than a white man. Hispanic men need an additional $77,000, and Asian men need an additional $247,000 in annual income. In contrast to men, women mostly cannot compensate for their ethnicity with a higher income." (page 29)

Forget New York City, I guess I have to work like 70 hour weeks, sell half my organs, donate plasma and then invest it all and make 20% at least on my investment...I guess I could just find a Japanese girl that is mormon... and actually has a personality... and is kinda fun... and isn't married to some white kid that served a mission in Japan...heck it would probably be easier to earn $247k a year than do that.

X Marks The Spot! (A Map to Singles)

Off to New York City!!!

Pine Creek Canyon at Red Rock

There it is! Off in the distance. The only wildlife i saw was horse poop, rabbit poop, two small frogs, a good number of flies, a lizard and maybe three birds. I did see like ten people though.

Getting closer.

The puddle, I mean creek. I bet it would be pretty cool to see after a rain storm. Maybe not since I wandered up the dry creek bed quite a ways...

A rock. It's kind of a big rock. But the wavy layers in the sandstone are kinda cool.

This is the foundation from some guy's cabin.

Screw the Stopped Up Toilet I'm Outta Here.

Yay for some East coast rock, Mae and some West coast rock, Sherwood... I don't really care for Reliant K. But I guess I'm not going to be able to leave before they play...so. yeah.

There has been a great buzz on the Internet on how great Sherwood is live. I'm excited to see if this is true, or just fanboys ranting on forums. Either way, driving along the coast with Sherwood playing is a pretty sweet experience.

Speaking of heavenly, two of these bands claim to be Christian bands. Yay for "Christian" Rock. Yay for Mae going from a Christian label, Tooth and Nail to a major label. It's funny I don't think a Tooth and Nail band has written a song about Jesus in about ten years... maybe the screamo bands have but I can't tell what screamo bands are singing about 94% of the time.

See Relient K...eh. Kinda boring. I guess they get points for having a soccer ball in their music video. Anyways all this means is screaming middle school girls for the evening of April 20th...crap. That's why I said the Brand New show last June was going to be my last show ever.

I want to see Saves the Day and Say Anything the night before. There is some talented East and West coast rock. Max Bemis went to the prestigious Windward School. I drove down to Vegas to see their first show of their first headlining tour. It was also the last show. Max went crazy and checked into a mental institution in Houston. Then he was ok and they were going to open for Saves the Day last year. I bought tickets and Max was crazy again...oh well, Saves the Day puts on a good show.

Say Anything had a contest for people to make a music video.

This was one of them. It has nothing to do with the song (A Jewish couple in love in an extermination camp). Though, that would be a little bit...bleak. It's a well done video.

CRAP!

The last time I ran my dish washer I was surprised by the amount of water in the sink. So apparently all the stuff blended down by the garbage disposal made a nice paste that got stuck in that U-joint under the sink. Luckily it didn’t back wash into the kitchen.

I was like, “eh” and let it sit for a couple hours to assess the damage.

The water went down a little bit, apparently the plug is a stubborn plug.

In the words of Dr. Elliot Reed, “Frick”.

So I give it two days, the dishwasher is starting to fill up again, and action needs to be taken. I’ve delayed the need for action by turning on the garbage disposal, which pushed all the water from one sink into the plumbing then up into the other sink. Then I’d collect the refuge and dump it into the toilet.

Well the moment of truth arrives, I crank up the I-Tunes and grab a wire hanger I happened to have. I open up the cabinet doors and take a look. It’s just plastic pipes, so no pipe wrench is needed, I blow a sigh of relief, because I left all of my “Clue” weapons in Provo.

I unscrew the pipe and a sick “barf” smell begins to come from the piping.

If you haven’t barfed for a while, blend up some food and let it sit at room temperature for two days….and you have barf smell (it also looks like it kinda, just a bit thicker).

So I pull out the joint and head for the bathroom. I empty out the joint into the toilet. Because (going back to my logic I had as a Roman Gardens resident) you chew up food and poop it out, it goes down the toilet. If your stomach rejects it and it comes up the other orifice, you dispense of it into the toilet. Essentially I was dumping the garbage disposal’s barf. So it should go down the toilet.

Most of it comes out into toilet. The rest of the barf I get out with the aid of the coat hanger and the bathtub faucet.

I piece my sink back together; only one song has played on I-tunes, that sure was easy!

I wash off my arms in the bath tub and take a victory dump.

You know how your jaw drops when you glance down at what should be your poop taking a clockwise ride down the crapper and it’s not and it’s getting precariously close to the rim of your toilet.

It doesn’t drop? Well it should because standing in your own excrement (or someone else’s) really just kinda sucks.

Double Frick!

So about six hours and about fifteen flushes later, the toilet still doesn’t quite flush right. All the #2 and TP has gone the way of a deceased goldfish, but the water still touches the bottom part of the rim. I guess I could just buy a plunger, but that would require money being spent and yada yada yada.

Morale of the story: Just because it is essentially poop or barf, don’t assume you can just flush it down the toilet. Just in case you weren’t around in 2003-04, pouring hot wax into Red Potato-sized blobs then flushing it is a bad idea too.

2007 Bring Your Own Big Wheel

Oh how I miss home.

You get a bunch of people that don't have jobs to go out and steal their five-year-old cousin's tricycle then flash mob Lombard Street in San Francisco.

It becomes a hit.

You do it every year since 2001.

Cat Takes a Bus?!?!

Article

Thats cool I guess. Cats have to get around town too.

Spring/Summer = Draft time

(for sports, not the armed forces)

So the NFL draft is coming up soon..Then will be followed by the MLB, NHL and NBA drafts.

I like the draft. Professional sports is the only profession where you start out and get paid top dollar based on your possible potential to be a great employee.

So I tried to figure out who was the highest draft pick from BYU over the past 10 years in each sport.

NFL- John Tait. 1st round, 14th pick of the 99 draft. Who?!?!Apparently he's an offensive tackle for the Bears. Other Notable Rob Morris (1st rounder), Doug Jolley (2nd). It took the Colts a little while to figure out what to do with Rob "The Freight Train" Morris. Doug Jolley is still bouncing around different teams trying to figure out his calling in life.

Maybe Harline or Beck will redeem the Cougars as superstar draft picks...um. probably not.

NBA-Rafael Araujo 1st round, 8th overall of the 04 draft. All he's done is sit on the bench for Toronto and Utah. He's pretty much a 270 pound seat warmer. Though they really don't let him get out of the seat to play...Well he has a pretty decent seat to watch NBA basketball. Travis Hansen was drafted the year before him in the 2nd round. He also rode the pine, then went to Europe and now is signed on to play for a Russian basketball team. He broke his foot earlier this season and went back to Utah to recoup. Poor Travis, playing pro basketball in Moscow. He should have just become a cage fighter in Mexico, that way he's closer to home...maybe he could work his way up to a Mexican wrestler, someone hurry up and get him a copy of 'Nacho Libre' to inspire him.

Can Ainge, Balderson or Young make it onto the NBA floor? maybe if they work as a cheerleader.

MLB- This is a bit harder to figure out since the MLB draft has about 50 rounds a year (Compared to the NFL's 7 and NBA's 2)and I didn't want to sort through all of it to find all the former BYU players playing in AA or A in the middle of nowhere. The Yankees have Matt Carson who was taken in the 5th round of the 2002 draft. He's playing AAA ball. Some others were Marco Villezcas, Brandon Taylor, David Horlacker and Nick Lemon. But they're so far from playing in the majors that they'll be paying only about $23 tithing a month from their minor league stipend.

I'm trying to figure out what happened to Mitch Jones. He was in the Yankees organization and was even on the 40-man roster (albeit it was like a week). They designated him for assignment last sept and he's not on their AAA roster. Maybe Xango came up on the list of MLBs banned substances and he got the boot?

Maybe he gave up his dream of playing in the Majors since he's 29? Maybe being inducted into the UVSC hall of fame was good enough?

Thats a smart kid, transferring to a PAC-10 school to get some attention.

Edit: Nevermind he's playing for the Las Vegas 51's, the AAA affiliate of the Dodgers.

World's Top 100 Most Livable Cities

Business Week

Consulting, which provides advice to multinational companies on international assignments, has come up with a global ranking of the world's most livable cities based on 39 key quality-of-life issues. They include political stability, currency-exchange regulations, political and media censorship, school quality, housing, the environment and public safety.

Now they didn't include San Diego or San Jose on the list. So I have some beef with this consulting company. I think they'd deserve to be in the 30s on the list, at least. Detroit is 64th on the list. Detroit according to the FBI, is the most dangerous city in the United States of America. 8 Mile is just a rough place to be I guess. So San Diego and San Jose would be a lot higher than 64.

These are the places I've been.

#3 is Vancouver, I liked Vancouver. If I had to live in Canada, it would be Vancouver. There was some restaurant we went to that had a fresh blueberry pie. That was amazing.

#5 is Auckland. New Zealand is a swell country. I really liked there too, it was clean and just a neat city at least in 1995. It could suck now, but since it is so high on the list, probably not.

#9, Sydney. If you want to live on an island that has a lot more dangerous creatures, go to Australia. If you want to live on an island so safe, that a small flightless bird would endear itself to the "new natives" go to New Zealand. But despite the crazy amount of wildlife that could eat you or poison you, I liked Australia.

#17, Melbourne. see above.

#27, Honolulu, This is the first US city on the list. I liked it, too bad you'd need a trust fund to move there.

#29, San Francisco, ah the bay area, my lovely home. The neat thing (or not so neat thing if you hate the cold) is that San Fran always is about 65 degrees year round. Yay for fog.

#32, Brisbane. apparently they liked Australia too.

#40, Kobe. Kobe is the best LDS mission ever...ok so I'm a bit biased. But Kobe reminded me of Seattle. I like Seattle, so I liked Kobe.

#42, Osaka. Osaka was neat, I didn't spend too much time in Osaka. But big cities filled with people that look exactly like me... how can you dislike that?

44, Washington DC
46 Portland
49 Seattle
55 Los Angeles

They Must Have Been Really Bored

287,720 pennies...I have like $45 in change, most of it's quarters and that bugs the crap out of me. I don't know how you go about collecting enough pennies to pay someone's mortgage for a month or two.

This happened to Eddie

Post hahahahahahahaha

so Eddie's firewall didn't like Internet Explorer's ability to access the Internet. Of course, who wants your Internet browser accessing the Internet...

Sports

So the Sharks have to play Nashville again, hopefully they can get some bounces to go their way and they can beat them in five again. Because the whole flying back and forth between San Jose and Nashville is going to take a lot of them...

One Week Down, 25 More To Go.

So the A's finished week one 3-4. Nice job keeping the Angels in check Cupcakes.

Nick Swisher has walked 8 times, nice job Swish.
Travis Buck has struck out 10 of his 17 at-bats. Ick. But what can you expect for a guy who skipped AAA ball.

So Scutaro and Crosby have combined for five errors in seven games. Thats not really a stat you want to see from your shortstops.

The bench has a nice line of .200 BA/.259 OBP/.320 SLG. Ick.
The starters have a line of .266 BA/.314 OBP/.364 SLG. kinda ick.

The average for the majors is .256 BA, .328 OBP, .401 SLG.

The starting pitchers did well, 1.91 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 5.3 K/9 IN
The bullpen kinda sucked 4.32 ERA, .96 WHIP, 5.94 K/9 IN

But at least the bullpen is pitching better than Barry Zito and his 8.18 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, 4.9 K/9 IN in his first two NL starts.

The averages in the majors is 4.05 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 6.56 K/9 IN

Players of the week: Milton Bradley and Rich Harden

So It's Been a While Since

I could remember any dreams I've had.

This one was weird. Someone was trying to follow me to get somewhere. Then she got separated and I didn't know where she ended up. So I tried to find a map and yada yada yada yada at this bed and breakfast place. Well I don't think I ever find the map but I end up doing some three-way smoochy smoochy with some unknown blond and brunette.

The next part of the dream. Someone asks me for a good idea for an event. I blurt out, "Smack an Adulterous Person".

So eventually I'm walking along outside, and past this like marina. I see a sign, "Beat an Adultery B#@*" There are guys with baseball bats approaching women armed with like cardboard boxes and kitchen appliances.

I felt a little bit uneasy and somewhat responsible. So there is a bit of a Gladiator-esque beat down. Most of the women go down. There was one girl who blocked a bat with her forearm and then knocked the guy out with her toaster in hand. The guy ended up floating under the pier...I was like, "wow thats the most amazing thing I've ever seen." Then I woke up.

Friday Night

So this weekend, if the Sharks beat the Canucks and the Blue Jackets beat the Ducks. The Sharks win the Pacific division.. Of course the Canucks are doing pretty well and the Blue Jackets kinda suck...So it's highly iffy.

I downloaded a whole bunch of Ben Folds. It's a nice mixture of swearing and piano. I think it would be cool to see him live once. He's suppose to make up songs on the spot based on suggestions from the crowd and what not. But I don't want to deal with the John Mayer crowds (he's opening up for John this summer and probably won't do much of the improv stuff since he's opening).

So I'm on my last pair of contacts. Apparently my prescription is "expired", I don't think it's been a year. So now I have to get my eyes looked at, then pay for contacts, instead of just buying contacts.

It's a bigger hassle than shoving the things in my eyeballs.

I think just taking a laser to my eyes is a good hassle free option. I just don't want the temporary blindness that might occur.

That and the money I'd have to pay up front. bah.

1-2

So thats kinda of a crappy way to start out the season against an (at best) average baseball team.

But Mark Ellis leads the Majors with 7 RBIs!!! (Thats just weird to see his face on the front of MLB.com, as the sole leader of the majors in RBIs. Not carrying a decent bat took away the gold glove he should have earned... Stupid voters). Way to get production out of the 9 spot. He's on pace right now for a 378 RBI season!!!

Yeah I'll be happy if he finishes with 60 (His career high is 52, which he's done three times).

Thanks to a fabulous outing by Rich Harden. The team ERA is 2.88 yay.

So the things we could look forward to before the season started was the bullpen and defense.

The defense has 3 errors in 3 games, (all from the shortstops, ick).

The bullpen has an ERA of 6.00, .83 WHIP, 3/1 K/BB.

The starters have an ERA of 1.98, .79 WHIP, 16/3 K/BB.

All in all, the pitchers and D played rather well except for botching up 1 inning each which cost the team two games.

The offense took a game to get warmed up, but they're doing ok.

Grant it, we're only three games into a 162 game season... and those three games were against a team that will probably finish last in the AL West again.

and the important stat of wins...with only one, current puts the A's in third place already... Stupid Angels beat Texas all three times.

Speaking of stupid Southern California sports teams, the stupid Ducks picked up a point in their overtime loss to the Sharks. So unless they lose their last two games and the Sharks win their last two games, the Pacific Division champs will be the Ducks of Anaheim. boo.

Chick Chick Boom

This is an Internet game made by Nintendo.

It's pretty entertaining.

Give it a twirl.

It might be a bit hard with a trackpad laptop users, just FYI.

84...the not so exciting conclusion

I know LeeElle and John have been checking the blog for what would be mentioned of their part of the visit...here it is.

The following occurs between 9:00 AM March 31st to 8:00 PM April 1st.

Your Mother Just Bought a Couch, You Guys Need to Move It(Is He Talking To Me? I Don't Live Here, I'm So Confused)...

Jess and I ate at IHOP. The reason it's worth mentioning is because I could never get her to go to IHOP. She even suggested it.

Then I met LeeElle's family at Ruby's. Ruby's is pretty swell. Waitresses wear a super outfit. It's like a nurse hat, candy striper uniform and a french maid apron. Woot. It's super.

After that we ended up at LeeElle's parents house to watch conference.

I was sitting there on a couch when her dad walks and tells me and her younger brother the above, "Your mother just bought a couch..."

Like I mentioned earlier, I was confused.

So we all pile in the truck and go down the street then put the couch in the truck. It needs a good Zero Rez clean.

Overall it was weird being back there. The last time I was at the house was the summer of 03. Thats a long time.

Here Have a Couch...

I got the old couch. It's sitting in John and LeeElle's garage as I speak. After the GC watching (or sitting in front of the TV while it was on) I finally saw 'Stranger Than Fiction'. Well I was sitting in front of the TV while it was on, I fell asleep. whoops...

You Need to Build a Depot...

So Sunday morning and afternoon was spent at LeeElle's Aunt and Uncle's house. There was some more sitting in front of the TV with GC on, eating some breakfast burritos.

In between sessions, we played a game of Ticket to Ride.

Needless to say, I think some people were a bit liberal in their claims of route completion, I'm looking your way, little red head.

Yeah, obviously I'm too good of a teacher, because everyone I teach someone the joys of Ticket to Ride, they kicks my trash.

After the last session of GC. I drove back to Vegas. On the way back there was a car fire on the Southbound part of the 5. There was thick black smoke everywhere!!! Emergency vehicles were on the scene. The accident was a trailer and it was on its side across three lanes or so, needless to say, it stopped all southbound traffic. Crazy. Every time I see John and LeeElle in Southern California there is a car fire.

Much like the AZ trip, it was nice seeing Jess and Lee Elle and John and Lee Elle's family. But I haven't seen Disneyland in for like forever, so that was the most memorable part, hands down.

0-2

Yeah the A's are sucking a bit.

The team OBP is .243. Bleh
The team ERA is 4.50. Bleh
The batters BB/K is 6/15. Bleh
The pitcher's WHIP is .94. wow (the one good stat, though it doesn't matter when you can't win a ball game)

At least Milton Bradley brought his bat to Seattle, 3/7, 1 HR.

I wish Bobby Crosby would have brought his glove to Seattle. 2 errors which is the most in the majors so far.

84...Disneyland Day 2

The following occurs between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM, March 30.

This is Probably What the Jews Felt Like When They Went to the Concentration Camps...

For day 2, we start using fastpasses. They do speed things up quite nicely. We were in line for the Matterhorn and it stopped working. So we went to Space Mountain, grabbed a fastpass for later hopped on the ride (which you now "rock out" to the Red Hot Chili Peppers, way to go Space Rocker!!!!), went back to the Matterhorn, hoped on Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blaster (which was actually kind of entertaining), then used the Fastpass for Space Mountain.

A fastpass gives you an hour window to essentially, cut through the part of the line that is outside of the ride. Then you get to wait on the inside. After you get a fast pass, you have to wait an hour before you can grab another. So you can't run around the park grabbing fast passes to your heart's content.

There is still a lot of waiting in line. Then I came to the realization...Mickey (& Minnie) Mouse hats look like yamikas with ears attached to them.

Walt Disney was accused of being anti-semantic. What would look better to someone that maybe didn't think much of group of people than creating a place that looked like a bunch of those people being herded like sheep into a train?

Maybe thats why Disneyland is the happiest place on earth. Its an anti-semantic's dream come true.

You wait in line forever. You might get separated from part of your group because there is more room in another car. If you're like my sister, you get lost and the family doesn't even realize you're gone.

Grant it, the rides are a lot better than gas chambers.

Weeeeeeee...

We squeezed in Big Thunder Mountain Train, Haunted House, Indian Jones, Pirates the train around the park (I ended up power napping on it) and went over to Soaring Over CA. They spray different smells, which is kind of neat, but I think mine was broken because everything smelled like a Pine car freshener.

I still think they should have you fly over bumper-to-bumper traffic and through a Los Angeles smog cloud. It should be narrated in Espanol too...

The Dirt is Painted On...

So while waiting to get on Soaring Over California... The kids behind us were getting a bit annoying. They were arguing about the dirt on the poles of the overhand...One thought it was all painted on, they were a bit Metro, so the argument came up because one tried to tell the other that his clothes would get dirty if he leaned up against the pole...

THE REASON I'M YELLING IS BECAUSE YOU ARE HERE!...

Disneyland is a bit expensive. I went on 12 rides over about 15 hours spent at the two parks. The annual pass cost me $124. So each ride has cost me just a tad over $10.

We noticed quite a lot of spouses yelling at one another. The above "title" was yelled before the husband marched off from his family. We saw women grab the children and storm away from the husbands.

Grant it, to vacation at Disneyland with a family, you'd probably have to take out a 2nd mortgage on your house to do it. Not doing so could make the finances a bit tight and life a bit stressful.

People buy hats that you will never ever wear again. Food is expensive, say hi to a $12 hamburger at a sit-down place. Heck just to park you car so you can spend money is $11. A bottle of water (1 liter, so thats a bit bigger than normal) at ESPN Zone was $5.99.

And after all of that you may have to find yourself a new place to live, a lawyer and a T-shirt that says, "World's #1 Weekend Dad".

84...Disneyland Day 1

The following takes place from 1 PM - 9 PM, Thursday, March 29th.

Standing in Line...
What do you do at Disneyland? stand in a line. I stood in a line to go through the security check

then to buy my pass...then to take my picture for the pass (I look like an old man hahaha)... The first hour spent at Disneyland was in line.

More Standing In Line...

So we took off towards California Adventure...I wish I could have sat on that planning meeting. Let's build a new theme park...lets do a themed theme park. Thats a great idea!!! what about a themed park about California...in CALIFORNIA!!! That tests through the roof! Our CA tourists loved the idea.

I spent my little time in the park declaring, "Boy they did a great job of making this park look like California." or "I feel like I'm in California right now".

(Don't hate on CA Adventure to some So. Cal folks, they like it)

Um yeah...so after an hour in line (2 hours in the Happiest Place on Earth) I went on my first ride ever at California Adventure, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror.

Backwards Mullet?...

After Tower of Terror we hightailed it back to Disneyland. Another hour wait (now I've been at "Disneyland" for like 3.25 hours). The Indian Jones Ride. That was sweet. The highlight of the ride though was the girl with the awful backwards mullet. Long in the front, short everywhere else. IT was sick. then she had blonde spots died in the short hair. yeah. so sick, i had to use the phone to get a blurry picture of it. (It's like Bigfoot, or the Loch Ness Monster, or UFOs. It is so out of this world that you need a picture but you can't get a clear picture...bah) My first time to Disneyland in about 14 years and I only go on two rides.

How is the Levels of Your Water Source?

So the day is shot. Two rides. One $124 pass. That means each ride cost me $62 so far.
off to Downtown Disney for some grub.
ESPNZone: The wait is 2-3 hours

um yeah. no thanks.

We end up at the Tex-Mex place. The waitress was crazy. Told us everything she was doing for us. "I will give you some more time", after we placed the orders, "I will put these in right away." "They're preparing your food right now"... "How are the levels of your water source?"

Um, the levels of our water source is a bit low, ma'am.

Hope back on the 5 and go back to Laguna Niguel. Watch 'The Da Vinci Code' Call it a day.

Theme song for this post: Zero 7- In the Waiting Line.

EDIT: This is pretty much what the Hollywood Tower of Terror is like, someone re-created the map on Half Life 2... I guess some people just have a lot of free time.

Congrats to UF

And Rebecca.
then that Lew kid and Derek.

Congrats to Derrick Fleming and his 1610 points. He wins like $10,000 for winning ESPN's thing. I only finished like 480 points behind him...only.

blah.

All that matters though, my average bracket score: 1044. Greg's average bracket score 908.

Geez I guess Florida's AD is doing a pretty good job. With having the National Championship in the same school year for football and basketball..

If they had a hockey team, maybe they could get to the Frozen Four.
I've never heard anything about a Florida baseball team either.

Monday: March 26

Jess: I want to go to Disneyland.
Me: I'm in, when do you want to go?
J: I'm off Thursday and Friday.
Me: I'll see you Thursday and Friday.

Me: (How much does Disneyland cost anyways?!?!?!)

Me: How much does Disneyland cost?
LeeElle: Like $70
Me: Thats expensive.
L: Yep.

Me: Give me your address, I'm going to buy a So. Cal resident pass.
J: ok

The following takes place between March 29, 8:30 AM to March 29, 2:00 PM

A good portion of the time was spent driving... Nothing too eventful happened during the drive. I tried out the 241, which I usually avoid because of the toll. It is quite handy though and was almost worth the $4.50 (or so). I got to the Laguna Beach about 11ish and found a new (to me) beach that was pretty swell as you can see from the pics.

I wandered up the beach then back. Laguna is pretty swell because it has cliffs and what not. I didn't wander any tide pools this time around, but I saw plenty of wildlife. I even saw a pod of dolphins and a couple of humming birds. (Both of which I tried to take pictures of, but failed miserably).

I also got to see some pretty awesome houses on the coast. They all had nifty staircases down the cliff to the beach.

Eventually I stopped wandering and started reading my book. The beach is swell, Beach>Mountains>>>>>>> desert.

There were hardly any people on the beach. Which was nice, there wasn't much seaweed crap either. So that means less flies and what not. One thing that makes So Cal better than Nor Cal is that they're so superficial that the people that shouldn't wear bikinis are more likely to avoid wearing them. Which is a good thing. The Big Island of Hawaii was horrible, big old people wearing bikinis = iffy vacation memories.

This is probably the nicest beach I've found in Laguna. It's not so wide, so if you want to play Ultimate Frisbee or something, you're out of luck.

Theme song for this post: Sherwood- The Best In Me.

I hit 66,666 miles on July 26 or so (Post). SO it took just a little more than eight months to go 11,111 miles.

0-1

So the A's open up the season with only Swisher getting on base (via a base on balls) after two innings. thats a fabulous OBP of .143.

Of course Seattle opened up the season going 0-for-6...so it could be worse.

But King Felix has struck out five of the first 10 batters he's faced so I don't feel all that bad for them.

But Travis Buck is making his Major League debut... way to go Travis.

EDIT: So, the A's lost 0-4, but the good news is that the team ERA is still 0.00. Bobby Crosby already has two errors for the season... way to go Bobby, maybe he should have got a Priesthood blessing before the season started...They finished the game with a fabulous OBP of .188...yeah thats not going to get it done.
