Now I skimmed all the previous posts, so I might have missed one or two posts about something and some I threw into two categories, such as pictures of traveling got catergorized in travels and hello from…
Now if these were my priorities they’d be pretty screwed up. People that can talk to me only have been mentioned twice over a 7.5 month period. Now there have been more than two events with those people that warrant mention in a lowly blogger.com blog.
I apparently care about random crap 15 times more than anyone else.
Not really knowing anyone in Vegas allows for a bit more thinking time for Kaakun than normal. Sometimes I wonder if I should have stuck the year out at Xango. I would have gotten that good ole 2.5x holiday pay on Labor Day, since no one wanted to sit around in will call all day.
I would have gotten to go to a kick-ass Christmas party with the 1:5 chance to (I’m pulling the chances out of my ass) to win a Christmas party gift. Maybe some drill bits to go with the drill I won last year. Maybe some ski passes that would have eventually been passed on to Ellie, maybe something ridiculous like the big ole clock they had last year. I would at least get a xmas bonus in the ball park of 200 bones and a steady flow of Xango and Xango swag. I also gave up free health/dental/life insurance. There was a girl that might have hooked me up with a job at Fidelity Insurance in Salt Lake. I also had a “rehab” plan to ease my way back into dating.
That looks pretty good. I knew people, it was comfortable, kinda. I could have just moved to Salt Lake, starting out new in the SLC, with a familiar face or two just 30-minutes south. Sounds like a decent plan to me.
Maybe I made a rash decision, I got to work that Monday morning. I Y-jacked for about 30-minutes, decided I didn’t want to listen to the person I was Y-jacking with and went off to my desk. I turned my computer on. Put a Greg Martin desktop photo on my computer. Downloaded ‘Trillian’, logged on and told Ellie I was going to quit. Then I got up and walked over to my boss and said. I’m quitting.
Now her response kinda threw me back. She looked like she was going to cry. Xango had just moved into a new big building, a lot of call center employees that lived in Salt Lake quit because they didn’t want to commute to Lehi. I know she was probably stressed with the move and losing a bunch of employees and losing another person that could take 60+ customer service calls a day doesn’t help things one bit.
I felt kind of bad for springing this on her, she was going to give me special privileges, such as working on projects instead of answering phones all day. She was willing to work with me somewhat.BUT have you ever told someone that you were going to quit and you told them when your last day of work was going to be?!?!?!?! IT’s amazing for a moment you fill like you’re in control. You could probably throw some swear words in there too (I didn’t take advantage of this in this situation because I wasn’t in a cussing mood). But telling someone you quit is something you probably have to experience at least once.
In eight days I quit my job, sold my housing contract, packed all my stuff into a U-haul storage unit, played 36 holes of golf, said goodbyes as many choice people as I could and was in a different time zone, all based on a decision I made in about 10 minutes in a room that reeked of fresh paint and carpet glue.
Needless to say living completely on your own is a learning experience. I’ve learned a lot over the past 2 months in Vegas. Like the house always wins… when the bartender cuts you off, you can just go to another bar.. just kidding.
This is the reason I wrote this long dragged out post.
http://kaakun.blogspot.com/2006/07/so_115390213285953248.html(This was the time I was dumped via an e-mail by someone I wasn’t dating and wasn’t pursing to date, I just thought it would be nice to see her once or twice a month.)
Now for the past 2 and half years there have been mixed feelings towards Camille, her friendship really meant a lot to me the year we lived in Centennial (02-03). It was a friendship that eventually caused a riff with my best friend and probably changed that relationship for the worse as well. There were fond memories of such exciting Provo-activities as grocery shopping and Margarita Mondays (they were virgin). She’s probably one of the few friends I actually have a picture of.
At first it was disappointed, which soon turned to hatred and then a mixture of the two. I felt like she ended the friendship for silly reasons and everyone I’ve shared the story with agreed.
I’ve checked her MSN space since I found it. She’s probably quite happy with her life situation. At least she looks happy. The “dumping” didn’t kill me, I’ve had plenty of great memories over the three years while being Camille-less.
Maybe she didn’t like her decision to drop kick me to the curb via e-mail. Hopefully she was disappointed to say goodbye to my mad grocery shopping skills, my witty banter and the creativeness that came with my friendship (during the time I was allowed to associate with her, I covered her walls with Kirk-art, which was actually crappy stick figure drawings on the back of church bulletins, ah memories).
The Point of this long drawn out story: IT was a necessary thing to do for her to move on with her life. Perhaps it sucked, hence the e-mail instead of saying it my face or on a phone or with a hand-written letter delivered via carrier pigeon.
Now I know you’re sitting there thinking, I read this long ass-thing for no reason, I could have told you that from when you told me this story the first time.
Sometimes you have to leave something and end a friendship or two for something better to come along. Do I miss Provo? Not one bit. Do I miss people in Utah? Some of them, I’ve learned a great deal about myself and life from some of those people (E.g. like what a Gibson girl is. I kinda figured it would be a pretty face for Gibson Guitar PR events. I was so wrong). Do I tell those people what they mean to me? No, they don’t even get mentioned in the as much as crappy TV shows or a city that’s covered in Smog.
I know you’re expecting a list of the people that have a special place in ole Kaakun’s heart that he wears on his sleeve. But there isn’t going to be a list. But really thank you for anything you’ve ever taught me and every experience we’ve shared.
PS The Sharks won tonight and are 9-4 to start out the season.
