The A's kicked butt once again in August. They finished 21-6 during the month.
Last year they were 16-11, in 2004 they were 19-8, in 2003 they were 19-9, in 2002 they were 23-4. Thats a winning percentage of .721 woot.
They lost once to the Angels, who won 16 games this month
Twice to the Rangers, who won 16 games this month
Once to the Blue Jays, who won 12 games this month
Twice to the Royals, who won 12 games this month.
I'm going to crash with my old roommate, Kevin for a little bit. Too make ends meet I'm going to clean carpets. Apparently it's hard work. Hopefully I don't die.

goodbye cruel world. or Provo

My collection of goodbye presents. yay!
I also played softball for the first time in like a year or so... I was like 2 for 2 with 2 runs and I got to play the hot corner and had like half a dozen POs and half a dozen Es. Yeah that makes for an awewsome fielding percentage. of course if this was a real game they'd have a real shortstop and i'd have been 0 for 2 and probably GIDP twice for a stat line. but i probably wouldn't be playing either...

Little Miss Sunshine

I was hanging out with my friend, Kim. We went and saw Little Miss Sunshine. It was a dandy. Sure there was a bit of cussing, but I was thoroughly entertained. It's been fun hanging out with people I haven't seen in a while.
I also watched part of the Little League World Series. It was the International Championship game between Mexico and Japan. These 12-year-olds are throwing 77-mph fastballs. They equate it to a 100-mph MLB fastball. Thats crazy.

Congrats Z!!!
Almost every Thursday
has been spent playing roller hockey at some kid's house in Alpine. Yesterday was the last day. It was a bit sad. I also watched Ellie's softball game, it was an amazing game, I left when they had 5 runs or so, then they scored 9 runs in the last frame!!! amazing. Unfortunatly the other team opened up the game with an 11 run 1st inning...

I'm in China!!!
Ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Three years ago, we used to have church in the HFAC. For a month right before church we'd carry one of those cheap toy parachute men to the 5th floor and drop him and watch him float to the 1st floor (he didn't always make it, poor guy).I fell out of a plane today (and got to feel the same sensation that toy felt, if he was alive and had feelings and blah blah blah). There really isn't enough room to jump out. So you just get in a catcher's position and roll forward. It wasn't all that bad. You're accelerating for what seemed like a brief second and then just floating with a lot of wind hitting your face.
Til the chute opens. Then you're picking the harness out of your butt.
I was the last one out of the plane. At first you're like, "holy crap, he just jumped out of a plane. Then, Ellie fell out and you're thinking, "holy crap she just fell out of the plane." By the third person you're kinda like eh. Then when you're the last one out of the plane, no one could hear your witty remark as you leave.
Then we back-flipped a couple times. I was just kinda like, whoa ground, sky, ground. Then there was some turns when we under the chute where the harness kinda rubs the wrong way.
By the way, I stole the picture from the Internet. So we didn't have to shoot through clouds or anything. I'll probably steal Ellie's group photo and post that when she does.
I accomplished one of two goals I wanted to do before moving out of Provo (It wasn't sky diving). It was kinda half-assed but it's done, sorta. I'm fine with that though. It was to hold a conversation with Anthony, hahaha. I think only like two people know about it. But it's done. Chalk that up as a victory. Just like the A's are going to, beating the Royals 7-2 going into the bottom of the 9th (Even though they got beat in both double header games yesterday, but you can't win everyday. And that day happened to be yesterday for the Athletics).

Big Three

My roommate Greg and I always have a friendly argument about whos pitching staff is better. Of course there is a slight hometown bias.
The first time I heard of a "big three" was in reference to Atlanta, Maddux, Smoltz and Glavine in the mid 90's. Then Oakland's staff of Hudson, Mulder and Zito was called the big three.
After they were broken up Pettitte and Clemens joined Houston and Greg thought the title should be passed to Houston.
If you average out the season totals, each players' average would be.
Atlanta (93-02) 15.6 W, 7.7 L, 2.97 ERA, 33.8 G, 30 GS, 3.8 CG, 1.4 SH, 2.2 S, 2.4 SVO, 210.2 IP, 189 H, 77 R, 69.5 ER, 14.7 HR, 4 HBP, 54.9 BB, 159.2 K, 1.16 WHIP, 6.80K/IP, 5 Cy young trophies, 9 Division wins, 1 wild card, 2 League championships, 1 World championship
Oakland (00-04) 15.6 W, 7.9 L, 3.54 ERA, 31 G, 31 GS, 3 CG, 1.3 SHO, 206 IP, 189 H, 89.3 R, 81 ER, 18.7 HR, 7.7 HBP, 66 BB, 147.3 K, 1.24 WHIP, 6.44 K/IP, 1 Cy Young trophy, 3 division wins, 1 wild card
Houston (04-05) 15.7 W, 7.8 L, 2.83 ERA, 30.7 G, 31 GS, 1.2 CG, .5 SHO, 201.2 IP, 176 H, 69.2 R, 63.5 ER, 14.3 HR, 5.2 HBP, 53.8 BB, 173.8 K, 1.14 WHIP, 7.76 K/9IP, 1 CY Young trophy, 2 wild cards, 1 league championship.
Stat-wise, you could consider Houston's starting three a "big three" except this year, Houston is currently 4 games below .500. So who could you consider the "Big Three" of 06? Minnesota's staff which includes Santana, Liriano and Radke? Who sport an average of 12.3 W, 5.3 L, 3.36 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 8.12 K/9 IP?
I dunno. does it matter? The A's are beating the Mariners 9-1 going into the bottom of the 5th.
Go A's!!!
Uncle Kaakun...

So the lil bugger is 5 weeks old. (the picture is from week 3) Those eyes aren't very slanted... I'm a little concerned. Not really, there hasn't been any real connection between me and him (I used to call him it til I was rebuked, you know who you are) and probably will be until he can hold somewhat of a conversation.
But my newphew is 6x cuter than your nieces/newphews. Unless they're asian, then he's probably only 2x cuter.
Sky Diving Saturday
http://www.skydiveogden.com/
So I'm sky diving on Saturday. My friend, Ellie (I called her Darlene in a previous post, http://kaakun.blogspot.com/2006/03/monday-monday-monday.html) wanted to go. I was like "eh, sure why not". That also happens to be the day that I was hired at XanGo LLC. So i get free health insurance, starting on that day. I think my life insurance is policy is still in order. So if I die, my sister gets like $25k.
Ellie called dibs on my movies and it wouldn't surprise me if she grabbed the laptop on the way out.
I told Jessie i'd have someone UPS out my CDs to her.
Thats pretty much all of the Kaakun estate. I guess there are some musical instruments and cheap '98 economy car. There is also a dell desktop that has like half a terabyte of HD space. There is also quite the XanGo swag collection stored away and about $500 worth of juice sitting in the kitchen.
The A's are like 10-2 in August. It's sweet. They're 13-1 against Seattle this year.
In other news in my dream I married my former friend Kara. There was no hanky panky, I woke up during what I guess would be the reception. It's funny how when I don't have a creative outlet, I dream up crazy stuff.

Real Madrid 2, Real Salt Lake 0

So I went to see Real Madrid and Real Salt Lake.
It was pretty interesting seeing world class soccer. XanGo got us world class seats at a 3rd world country price. The catch was we had to wear a bright orange XanGo shirt. Since it was world class soccer, I took a world class girl. We got to wear the same size shirt (because XanGo doesn't think their employees weigh less than 150lbs or know anyone else that is under 150). Which is a bit odd, since i'm like 5 inches taller and have like 50lbs on her. It was a lovely dress. But I also got to see how well my camera's zoom worked.
It does ok.
Real Salt Lake kept up with Madrid for the most part. I was entertained. I was expecting a blow out. But it was a well played game by both teams. At times it seemed like Salt Lake was tired, of course the MLS season is winding down and probably has some wear and tear on players.

XanGo CUP!!!!

This could also be considered the first installment of, Hello from a Panasonic TZ1.
I've been fiddling around with it and I think the almost 2.5 month long wait led me to expect a little more... It's so so.
XanGo got us tickets to the Salt Lake Bees. It's the triple A organization of the Angels. So I was quietly cheering on the Round Rock Express.

I guess it's not bad. This is from the 3rd base side, 2nd row.
I'll keep fiddling around with the camera and decide if it was worth the $280 and 2.5 month long wait.

Update
Nothing new has really happened. The A's are playing decent. I had a work party, that was fun. I'm just kind of floating out on the big ocean called life.
